Joe Calkins was born in Fallbrook California in 1970. He resides in the Northwestern United States with his wife and daughter. As a freelance fantasy artist, his work can be found in Collectible Card Games, Role Playing Games, book and magazine covers and art instruction books.

While Joe loves to sketch fantasy characters and creatures, his real work is an on-going study of light, color and composition. He cites his greatest influences as Frank Frazetta, Boris Vallejo and Brom.
